I Love Japan! Hello, new Hiroshima JETs!

I Love Japan, originally uploaded by flogently.
Starting your new life as a JET in Hiroshima will challenge even the most enthusiastic, flexible, tolerant, patient, and Japan-experienced amongst you.

Hindsight is, as they say, 20/20, so here is some advice from people who were willing to share their vision and perspectives back in 2006. Why not benefit from some words of wisdom from people who have already been in your shoes?

Click on this link to download a PDF (17 pages) with dozens of kindly-given answers to the following questions:

1. a) What was the best/most rewarding thing about being here in Japan/about being a JET?

b) How did that come about? Did you make it happen yourself or was it a happy coincidence?

2. What advice do you have for JETs to help them make the most of their time in Japan?

3.  a) What was the most difficult thing about being here in Japan/about being a JET?

b) How did you deal with/overcome/lessen that difficulty?

4.  What advice do you have for JETs to help them get through difficult times here?

5. What were the most useful Japanese words you learned?

6. Feel free to add anything else!

And for the jumbled mess that I'm calling my "notes" (they include names and contact info/links for things mentioned in the presentation), please go to this link. It's a Word Notebook document, so please let me know if you have any problems viewing it.

Feedback always appreciated!
Flo
